The ULPGC goes to Mauritania to the III meeting of the UNWAM Network, the Network of Universities of Northwest Africa and Macaronesia.

A delegation from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, headed by Rector Rafael Robaina and the Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Cooperation, Richard Clouet, attends Nouakchott (Mauritania) on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 November to participate in the III Meeting of the Network of Universities of North-West Africa and the Macaronesia (UNWAM).

Nouakchott Al Aasriya University will host this third meeting of Universities of Northwest Africa and Macaronesia, which was constituted in December 2017 at the initiative of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with the aim of intensifying the internationalization of the area of Northwest Africa through a global network of partners, as well as for institutions and organizations in the world to perceive this geographical area as an active academic environment and truly internationalized.

This third meeting will address issues related to joint degrees, doctoral programmes and lifelong learning. Likewise, the strategic plans of the partner Universities or the possibilities of scientific cooperation, research and innovation will be presented.

The program of the meeting includes the participation of different Vice-Chancellors of the ULPGC in different presentations such as Richard Clouet, on Internationalization and Cooperation; Marcos Peñate, on Degrees and Continuing Education; José Miguel Doña, on Coordination and Institutional Projects; as well as Rector Rafael Robaina, in the opening and closing ceremonies. The Embassy of Spain in Mauritania offers a reception to the participants on Thursday afternoon.

In addition, there will be the entry into the network of two new universities in Senegal and Togo, which join the 19 that last year constituted the network.
